Prostitution in the Victorian Era- Blog 4

During the Victorian Era , prostitution was not allowed . It went against what they believe back then about how women should be and their values. Even though it has been told there was roughly eighty thousands of women who were working as prostitutes in just in London. During this time the ladies were seen as what upper class or middle class should ever become . Even though they had many critics, many of the women had to go out and find ways to earn money. Most of them were getting paid better than working in shops . This is why the chose prostitution. Which was due to economic necessities. But things started going downhill for these girls earning their money . There was not a cure for sexual transmitted diseases then so things started rapidly spreading.

Working Conditions – Blog 3

Reading about the sweat shops and the labor was horrible. The things the lower class had to go through and how little pay the received from working all day . The had low pay and horrible working conditions. The conditions were filthy and some places it was not safe to work in. People had no choice but to work in those conditions and accept the little to almost nothing pay they were being paid. The things that are the same from then and now would be how there are some places where people are still being treated poorly in poor working conditions. The only thing about today is how we have rules and people can defend themselves from extreme conditions. We have a human resource department in almost every job.

The picture above shows during this time in Glasgow, the population was going rapid that the was so many poor towns and people living in them. The streets of this town were cramped up with people . All this cause many problems. Crimes were becoming a thing and most of the people who lived here from poor working class immigrant families who either came from Ireland or different cities. This picture caught my attention because you can clearly see in the pictures how filthy the streets look. The women and what seems like her children are just standing there in an alley. By the first looks of the picture you can only image how it really was then. How over crowded it was and having to live there and not having anything else .

Introduction to the Victorians – Blog 1

After reading about the Victorian Era I came to realize how many things we are still doing exactly today how they did them . It is crazy to believed that being in different centuries and being in a different society , with different politics and technology, we still have similarities with them. One thing that caught my attention to our similarities with them was modern tools they invented and how we came to modernize them and improve them. Not only tools but how they spread medical knowledge. Many women like Florence Nightingale who helped out and spread out medical knowledge, improved the sanitation in hospitals . If it was not for her and those others who improve that ,many people would of continued to die by simple infections that could of been prevented . Today we continue to help keep hospitals clean for others to help spread any deadly disease or viruses that can be easily passed .
